Aymen Mouhine or Aymen, that’s how people and his friends call him. A lovely yet straightforward name to say. This Morrocan young man is currently studying as an international student at Bachelor of Arts English literature at the Faculty of Letters, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. He is one of the awardees of the Rector’s scholarship for international students. Imagine the turbulence he had when journeying from his home country to Indonesia in the exhausting pandemic. It was exhausting and devastating since one could only fly with strict protocols. Luckily, he passed it and has been on the campus for almost six months.
Purwokerto is a friendly and warm town to stay in, and it was not long for him to get acquainted with new people in the city. I think he is an expert in socialising. No wonder! It is all because he is different from the natives around him. No one will deny that he is handsome, kind, humble, and easy-going. These great traits and fluency in speaking several languages qualify him the best. What an excellent!
I also heard that he has been enjoying living in Purwokerto. Satay and grilled meatballs (bakso bakar) are his favourite foods. Like other bule, he is also impressed by the hospitality of the native people. The most compelling reasons for him to study in Indonesia is learning Indonesian culture and enriching his language skills. I was amazed by his Arabic, French, English, and Mandarin verbal skills. He said he wants to be a polyglot and will master the Indonesian language sooner while studying in the Faculty of Letters, UMP, and living the Indonesian ways.
He doesn’t have a role model, but he. It is another way one tries to motivate himself instead of adoring others. That’s the way we put ourselves as the subject, inspiration, and goal of life. This idea completes his self-quality more than the best. It then amazes me more, and I agree with him.
He also shared that before coming to Indonesia, he tried to know and understand the language and culture in Indonesia, especially in Purwokerto. He has also learned about Indonesian culture for more than four years. That’s why he did not meet any cultural shock as a newcomer. Until now, he feels blessed for encountering new experiences, friends, and a home in Purwokerto. It will all encourage him to pursue his dreams: to get a bachelor’s degree and be a polyglot. (Brev)
