When we could enjoy a delicious soup on a table, we might ask how it was cooked; how it could be so tasty; is it difficult to cook it?; what was the recipe?, etc. Such questions are common for those who like or do not like cooking. Many people say that cooking is difficult. But, for Mutohar Lutfi, or “Om”, or “Lutfi”, that’s how people call him, cooking is fun. Even he can spend all his spare time cooking and trying new recipes.
It is pretty surprising to hear him talking about foods. It seems food is one of the most exciting topics since he loves all kinds of cuisines. He said he started to like cooking when he was an elementary school student. He often stayed alone at home because his parents worked. Whenever he was hungry, he had to cook himself. Sometimes he fried eggs or boiled noodles. It all made him motivated and independent. It has taught him to be challenged and get ready for any situation.
Lutfi is lucky to learn cooking from his father, who had ever been a chef in Bali. He has some role models who have inspired him to cook: the owner of Brownies Amanda, Mrs Sumi Wiludjeng, and the owner of Kebab Baba Rafi, Mr Hendy Setiono. Besides, he also likes to watch the American cooking tv show “Barefoot Contessa”, which always makes him try new things in cooking.
However, cooking pastries and other sweet foods is the most difficult for him. He often fails to do it. The cake is sometimes too thick, not sweet, and so on. But he is always confident about every lesson in every failure. Although he fails to cook sweet foods, he has been successful in cooking Spaghetti Aglio Olio and fried rice until now. He said not all people can cook these dishes properly and deliciously. Afterwards, he will put the hat back and stand up straight when he makes it. Lastly, he feels that cooking has made him a man because it makes other people happy. (Brev)
