Purwokerto, 3 September 2021: To increase the accreditation of the study program, the Faculty of Letters opens an international class program in English Literature or Bachelor of Arts English Literature for Indonesian and international students starting in the 2021/2022 academic year. The class registration started from August to early September 2021 through the Rector’s Scholarship for foreign applicants. For domestic applicants, the faculty conducted a placement test. The awardee of the scholarship for BA EL is a student from Morocco, while five students are Indonesians who passed the placement test.

The university has several procedures for foreign applicants to attend the international class. First and foremost, they must upload several documents to the admission link. The documents include photocopies of passports, visas, motivational statements, certificates of English competency (TOEFL/IELTS) with a minimum TOEFL score of 550 or ILETS score of 6.5. The other requirements are not more than 25 years old for undergraduate degrees and not more than 35 years old for masters’ degrees, having completed secondary schools or bachelor’s studies, preferably those who have lived in Indonesia and have a certificate of Indonesian language proficiency, have exemplary achievements in academics and non-academic, have a good attitude, and obey the rules and norms while on campus.

The purpose of opening this international class is to face the challenges of 21st-century education, namely to produce qualified graduates with a global perspective and high absorption in the work industry and maintain an Islamic character. The Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Ambar Pujiyatno, SS, M. Hum., said that “This international class is an excellent program, a means of publication and a distinctive feature of the English Literature Study Program which will attract prospective overseas students to get to know the Indonesian nation and its unique cultures. In teaching and learning activities, the students and lecturers will use the English language that determines the quality. Besides, the students will also learn from lecturers with doctoral degrees.

The vice-dean of the faculty, Sulasih Nurhayati, M.HUm., added that the international class applies the same curriculum as the regular class, which is a 4-year education period with a total minimum credit of 144 according to the regulations of the Higher Education. The international students should also participate in international programs to explore their global insights and experiences, such as international community services, credit transfer, international internships, international competitions, etc. The students will also get an international degree according to their education program at the end of the course..
